Tom explains to the policeman about the incident of Myrtle Wilson's death. "It was a big yellow car," Tom said, "big yellow car...new" (Fitzgerald 139). The yellow color of Gatsby's car was important because it led to his death and if the color was black, like most of the cars during that time, he wouldn't of been killed. Yellow is not just the color of money, but also of destruction and dishonesty.
Gatsby threw parties to try to impress Daisy and show that he is wealthy now. His carefree party was describes mentioning "The lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun, ... orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key higher (Fitzgerald 40). The yellow cocktail music is used to symbolize beauty and old money.
When Nick was at Gatsby's party he was feeling a little bit uncomfortable until he finds Jordan Baker. He says that "A tray of cocktail floated at [them] through the tight light, and [they] sat down at a table with two girls in yellow and three men, each one introduced to us as Mr. Mumble" (Fitzgerald 43). The two girls in yellow were used to describe them as materialistic which is used to make them look wealthy.
