It all began with pencil and paper, and HBO. As a child, I used to always read and write. One day, I came across a channel by the name of HBO. The programming was amazing to me, and inspired me to want to write for television and film. In addition to fiction stories, I began to write screenplays.
Reading is writing, and I spent many days as a child in the library reading. I had a book in my hand wherever I went. I would read stories, then write my own. Some of my favorite books included The Babysitter's Club series, Nancy Drew, and books by authors such as Judy Blume and R.L. Stein. I continued to read and write fervently.
What should I do...?
Father God, direct my path.
In undergrad, I minored in film and video studies. This included courses in creative writing and playwriting. I even had the opportunity to attend a few film festivals and network with some amazing people! These courses allowed me to grow and develop further as a creative writer.
"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17
I co-wrote a Christian play in undergrad as a community project for charity. I was responsible for the first act, and this was my first major professional project as writer and director. It was a great opportunity, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
After graduation, I decided to go into the field of education. Once starting a family, I had to take a hiatus for a few years. When I was able to, I decided to go back to school for the creative field of graphic design. I wasn't sure at first what I wanted to do, so it took a lot of prayer, research, and patience.
Although I love graphic design, writing has always been an important part of my life. When I create stories, I feel like I am walkng in purpose. I will continue to walk in faith.
