  • PSYCHOLOGICAL . Sadly, her every move was dictated by Alphonso her stepfather. She was eliterate speaking colloquial. Most of her life was ripped away. From incest two children were conceived and Alphonso gave them up for adoption without her consent.
  • Oppression Celie suffered mentally, physically, and emaotionally by her stepfather and her husband Mr. Albert. They degraded her until she became numb. They beat her, cursed her, and ripped her soul away from her. She had become submissive to them.
  • Letters to God Celie’s only outlet was to write letters to God because she would not be judged or silenced. Nettie had shut down Mr. Albert’s sexual advances. She was no longer welcomed in the home and was ask to leave. This was Celie’s and Netties only form of communication.
  • Shug Avery She was a very beautiful, flamboyant, and a great singer. She sang a song for Celie because she was the only one that stood by her when she was very sick. Celie was prohibited by Mr. Albert to not watch Shug sing at the Jukejoint but Shug persuade him tho let her go. Shug did not put up with any crap.
  • “I say, Until you do right by me, everything you touch will crumble.” At last, Celie developed the couragage to tell Mr. Albert off and that she was leaving him. The letters that were written to her from Nettie were hidden by him. Not until he was man enough to do the right things, everything would collapse.
  • FREE AT LAST She had the freedom to voice her thoughts and the freedom to use her power!
