Storyboard Text

  • In 1852, Fred Haeuser came to Minneapolis to find a well paying job. But at that time, the only industry that was hiring, was the lumber industry.
  • Everyday, after work, he would walk 4 miles back to his home. Although Fred only got $5 everyday, he felt lucky to even have a job. And he would spend hours and hours working just to get $5 a day.
  • After hours and hours of working, Fred was finally finished with his work. But before he could go home, he had to bring the wood all the way to the river and float it downstream.
  • Everyday, Fred would come home late at night and only get sleep for 5 hours. And he would start the whole day over. He wakes up at 4 am and starts getting ready for work.
  • He could only afford one loaf of bread for breakfast and would then head out for work. At work, he would then go up the river and cut down some trees.
  • After a few years of working as a lumberjack, Fred found it easier to do his job. And there he stayed, working for the lumber industry until he retired.
