  • Virginia Plan
  • Hi, I'm Edmund Randolf. In our plan, we also want each state to have a specific amount of representatives depending on the population of the state so then larger states should have more representatives.
  • Hello, I'm James Madison. We made a plan called the "Virginia Plan." In this plan we want 2 houses in legislature and 3 branches of goverment.
  • New Jersey Plan
  • Welcome, I am William Paterson. For my plan, I want to support the smaller states. In addition, I want to only have one house in legislature and each person gets a vote. Lastly, I want 3 branches of government.
  • A man named Roger Sherman of Conneticult came up with a solution. There would be 2 houses in legislature. One was the lower house, The house of Representatives. This house was base on population.  The other was the upper house, the Senate. This house was based on equal representation.
  • The Great Compromise
  • The North
  • Here in the North, we believe people who buy slaves should be taxed and that they should not be counted in the population because they do not have a vote.
  • Thank you so much!
  • The South
  • Oh don't you love slaves? Here in the South, we always accept slaves. Don't listen to the North, we shouldn't get taxed for slaves and they definitely will count in the population. HAHAHAHA!
  • The 3/5ths Compromise
  • The North and the South came up with a compromise where every 5 enslaved people would only count  as 3 people in the population.
