  • Development of the Plantation System
  • What are we to do? There are no more people to farm our tobacco. No indentured servants nor slaves!
  • What if we got some slaves from Africa? They'd be perfect for our needs.

  • This sucks. Big time.
  • The colonies needed more workforce (mainly in the south) to produce cash crops, as the colonies had low amounts of able people. Their solution was to import Africans that would be used to the climate and new diseases.
  • With that, Africa began selling mass amounts of slaves. The slaves took passage on dirty ships packed to the brim with other soon-to-be slaves. More and more slaves were sent over as the demand grew in the colonies. The African economy flourished.
  • Slavery became more and more common as both the demand for cash crops and slaves grew. The American and African economies were notably flourishing. The main source of income for African tribes was selling slaves. Slaves were used not only for farming, but tending to every need of their masters.
