The narrator is unreliable and crazy. he loved the old man, but hated his one "pale blue, vulture looking" eye. The eye drove him so insane that he decided to kill the old man. "Every night, about midnight, I turned the latch of his door and opened it-oh so gently."
he was never kinder to the old man during the whole week before he killed him. He snuck into his bed room every night waiting for the right moment to kill the old man. upon the eighth night he made a noise and the old man heard him. the man layed awake until it was the perfect time for the narrator to kill him. "With a loud yell, I threw open the lantern and leaped into the roomom. He shrieked once -only once. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. he died and he burried him under the floorboards.
the police arrived the next day and said someone had called because the heard a shriek in the middle of the night. the man happily invited them in and even took them into the room that the old mans body was in. the narrator heard a heart beat. The heart beat kept getting louder and louder. "But the beating grew louder, louder!" finally he snapped and told the police everything that he had done to the old man.
