  • Do not worry, it can only get better.
  • This will not be good...
  • Our farm has been taken over father, how will we make money now?
  • Mom, what will be for dinner tonight? I am starting to get hungry.
  • I am sorry sweetie, we do not have enough for at the moment.
  • These are my children, now and forever. I must protect them with my life. I MUST.
  • Pt. 1Li Jiao’s family farm was turned into a factory ever since the Russian advisors arrived to share their experiences with the Chinese government.
  • What am I doing here? I am a horrible mother. I can not, and will not abandon my baby.
  • Pt. 2Though the Russian advisors helped modernize China, many farms just like Li Jiao's family were not given enough attention. This lead to less food, especially for people like Li Jiao's family.
  • For my family!
  • Pt. 2Since Li Jiao listened to her father, she suffered the consequences by the government.
  • Pt. 1Lee Jiao had two kids, but because of the one child policy, she was not respected. Although she hated being looked down upon, her father taught her that if she ended up having more than one child, she should not abandon it, because that would be another life lost.
  • Over the years Jiao had become more confident in what she believed in, and in this case she had believed that her people deserved democracy and modernization, so she went to the protests in Tiananmen Square.
  • As the tanks arrived, Lee Jiao knew what she had to do. She ran into the riot. Lee Jiao risked her lives so that her children would get a better future. Sadly, Jiao passed away just like many others that day.
