Our games are so silly, I love you Maddy. Let's watch a movie.
Oh... I love you, too, Mom. A lot.
I'm sorry, Mom...
I'm glad you two can be happy... But under no conditions can you two touch.
At night, Maddy and her mother, Paula, play scrabble and do puzzles together after Carla leaves. Maddy and her mother are very close, so it hurts Maddy to not tell Paula about Olly. However she knows there would be bad consequences if her mother found out.
Maddy and Olly continue to talk, and she begs Carla to let them meet. Carla refuses, but eventually surprises Maddy by showing that Olly was waiting for her in the sterile plant room at the back of the house. Everyone is ecstatic, but Carla is very careful about this staying a secret.
Maddy, you can't do that! Come back inside right now.
You... You're outside!
Olly and Maddy continue to meet and grow close. They end up breaking the rules while Olly tries teaching Maddy how to do a handstand, and they contine to break more from there.
I'm sad to see you go, Carla, but you put her life in danger. Never come near her again.
Be safe, Maddy. Believe in your heart only.
Maddy learns from watching Oliver's family that they aren't a conventional family, or very stable. Their dad is an alcoholic and when he begins to get too forceful with Olly one morning, Maddy pushes past the air-locked, sterile front door to help Olly.
Maddy feels free, having been outside for the first time since she was just a toddler, until her mom storms out and drags her back inside.
Paula restricts Maddy's use of her personal computer to just school related things, and fires Carla for not being responsible.
