After my father chopped off his thumb, I decided to become a voyageur to make him proud. But I am scared to leave my family. So I went where all the voyageurs were getting ready to go on their next trip, and I became a voyageur and met the crew I was going to work with.
I said good bye to my family and boarded the canoe with the other voyageurs. It was really hard to keep up with the others while paddling, it is very tiring and I don´t really think I made the best choice. It is also very hard to get along with the other voyageurs because they are always teasing me and joking around.
The very first time I had to carry a pack up the hills I struggled a lot, I never new it was gonna be this heavy! But when I finally made it to the top, everyone was cheering for me. It turns out they pranked me by giving me a 200 pound pack which weighed as much as 2 packs. They did love to make jokes so I just had to get used to it.
It all started out as a beautiful day until a big storm rolled in which made it hard to paddle. With all the rain I struggled to paddle with the rest of the voyageurs. We found an island to stop at so we could wait out the storm, but before we got their are canoe began to flood with water. We got to the island where all the other voyageurs were waiting.
The voyageurs and I finally arrived at Grand Portage! I was so proud that I actually made it this far, even though we were only half way done. Charbonneau gave me a little tour of grand portage and we ran into his friend Mukwa who invited us to dinner tomorrow night. so the next night we had dinner with his family and I got to meet his daughter Kennewah.
After a very long trip to Grand Portage and back I was so happy to finally be back home with my family. When I saw my father he talked about how much I had changed which I didn't think I really changed that much at all. And even though the trip was long and hard I think I will be there next spring.
