A Poet Is Born
High school and collage
Life is for the living.Death is for the dead. Let life be like music. And death a note unsaid
Langston Hughes was born on February 1 1902. Hughes did not spend a lot of his childhood with his parents but mostly with his grandmother. His grandmother taught him about their family history, and told him about heroes.
Getting To Work
In school, Langston was always a pretty good student, he was even named class poet! Langston did not really like collage, it was very hard for him to get in a collage because he was black.
When Hughes got out of collage he went to earn a living. He tried a few stuff but he could not get the job because he was black.
Hughes decided to try to make a living by writing poems. He tried to put in newspapers but they got rejected because he was black. Then one day he got to have one of his poems in the newspaper. Then every one started to read his poems about equal rights.
On May 22, 1967, Hughes died in New York City at the age of 65 from complications after abdominal surgery related to prostate cancer. His ashes are interred beneath a floor medallion in the middle of the foyer in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem.
His legacy lives on, people love to read his poems. He was considered to contribute in the Harlem Renaissance. He was also one of the best poets in the 20th century.
