Storyboard Text

  • Then I'll have Aeneas, founder of Rome flee from Troy, and during his journey, he will go to the underworld
  • This statue depicts Augustus as young, cunning, and ideal, and has cupid and a dolphin at his feet
  • In the underworld, Aeneas will meet his father, Anchises, in the land where the good rest
  • Anchises will then tell Aeneas that Augustus is a descendant of divine lineage and that he is destined to bring a golden age to Rome and expand their lands to the heavens
  • This way, I am making Rome under Augustus's rule seem like the best time to be alive
  • People will follow him like a god and be proud to be a Roman
  • This is one of the greatest examples of Augustus's use of propaganda
  • Another example of how Augustus used propaganda is the statue Augustus of Primaporta
  • Virgil's book, the Aeneid, was propaganda that increased people's support of Augustus
  • He also has a breastplate with engravings that represent Augustus regaining Roman battle standards from the Parthians without a fight
  • The dolphin represents his success in naval battles, especially against Marc Antony and Cleopatra, and Cupid represents his divine lineage
  • He established the Pax Romana, and during his time as emperor, used propaganda to increase the support form the people
  • All in all, Augustus was a very smart leader who was able to earn full support from the people
  • Even after his death, Pax Romana remained for 200 years, making him an extremely influential figure in Rome
