Storyboard Text

  • Mrs. Baptista, I am still confused about limited and unlimited government.
  • In a democratic republic, the people are elected to government office by voters.
  • Sure, Nicole. What are you confused about?
  • Specifically, the difference between dictatorship and democratic republic.
  • Okay!
  • A dictatorship is unlimited.
  • In a dictatorship, one ruler has all the power. A pro could be that the dictator could choose to make positive decisions without argument.
  • Democratic Republic
  • A con could be that only the dictator has the power and he/she could strip everyone of their rights.
  • I am the king, and my new rule is that anyone that has black hair shall be executed!
  • But you have black hair too!
  • The rules do not apply to me, peasant!
  • Adolf Hitler and Fidel Castro were both dictators.
  • Dictatorship
  • A democratic republic is a limited government
  • A pro to this could be that people have the right to vote for who they want to lead them.
  • The people can vote for who whomever they would like.
  • The United States of America is a democratic republic.
  • A con could be that the process of making laws and making decisions can be slow.
  • I understand now!
  • Here's a way to remember. Think of limited as unlimited power, which is bad. and then think of limited power, which is good.
  • People have the freedom to vote for whoever they want.
  • Democratic republic is limited.
  • The process of making laws can be slow.
  • Dictatorship is unlimited
  • Adolf Hitler and Fidel Castro were dictators.
  • A single individual has all power.
