My parents are from Punjab, India. Punjab is a state in India that is based on agriculture. My mother's name is Kamaljit Kaur and my father's name is Rupinder Singh. They both first met in India and my grandparents decided to let both of them get married in America.
They both got all the correct paperwork and arrived at JFK. The decision my parent made was very difficult because once they arrived they left their home and family to start a new life. They got married on September 16, 2000, at Baba Makhan Shah Lubana gurdwara. They lived in an apartment with my uncle on the second floor. My parent were adjusting to their new life in America.
My uncle found my parents an apartment that was within the budget. So they moved to the apartment as they wanted to be independent and not be a burden on anybody
My Dad decided to work as a construction worker in America. He worked many hours, just to provide for us. We were not the richest as we only had enough money to make ends meet, yet my Dad did not give up and he kept on working, long tiring hours.
In 2001, I was born and in 2003 my brother was born. My parents worked a lot to make sure we didn't have to worry about any financial issues so we can focus on our education and make a name for ourselves
Finally, in 2016, my dad had saved up enough money to finally buy a house. He worked long and hard for this house to be made, and we are all grateful for him. My parents did struggle a lot as they did face racism, and discrimination due to the 9/11 attacks and people assuming they were terrorists, but regardless of all that he kept working to make sure we have a good life,
