  • The Stamp Act (1765)
  • The Townshend Acts (1767)
  • The Boston Massacre (1770)
  • The Stamp Act was a tax put on Americans by the British. They had to pay a tax on all sorts of printed materials such as newspaper .
  • The Boston Tea Party (1773)
  • They would try to use the revenue raised by the duties to pay the salaries of colonial governors & judges. These policies prompted colonists to take action by boycotting British goods .
  • Lexington and Concord (1775)
  • They tried to make liberal and moderate people become radicals. It was really on accident and radicals tried to use propaganda and turn something small into something big .
  • Battle of Bunker Hill (1775)
  • American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing "taxation without representation." Dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor.
  • General Thomas led a force of British soldiers from Boston to Lexington where he planned to capture colonial radical leaders Sam Adams and John Hancock. This war was known as " The shot 'Heard Round The Word' ."
  • The American forces learned that the British were planning on taking over the hills around Boston to gain a tactical advantage. Americans secretly moved their troops onto Bunker & Breed's Hill just outside of Boston in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
