- Your highness, I predict that your son will become a mighty king or a religious leader.
- Siddhārtha! Get away from that window!
- I am frightened! Is that man hurt? What is wrong!
- Siddhartha Gautama was born around 563 B.C. He was born a prince and his father wanted him to be a king. However, a fortuneteller said he could choose to be a religious leader or a king
- Siddhārthaś father hid him from the real world. He did this because he didn't want him to see old age, sickness, death, or poor people. He thought this would make Siddhārtha feel sympathy, and want to go down a religious path. Siddhārthaś father wanted him to take over for him as king instead of being a religious leader.

- At 29 Siddhartha went out without guards and saw four sights that changed his life. He saw an old man, a diseased man, a dead man and his family crying. He never realized people got old, sick and died this changed his life. The final sight was a homeless holy man who was content. He wanted to be like the holy man and traded all his riches.

- Siddhartha was living the life of a beggar. He started studying with gurus, he learned from them that life was an endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth. They also taught him about salvation but he wanted to learn more. He joined the ascetics who were a group of people who practiced extreme self denial. He became sick and decided this was not the path to truth.
- One day he decides he will sit under a tree called the bodhi tree and meditate until he finds the truth. He was tempted but he stayed strong for 49 days of searching. Eventually he reached the state of enlightenment and understood the cycle of birth death, and rebirth he became the Buddha
- He went to teach others what he had learned. Also he answered many peoples questions and preached a message of truth and hope. He wanted people to know the true nature of life. And tought that things were changeable. He wanted people to reach their own salvation. He died around 80 years old
