I barely finished a 3 page lab report last time, how am I supposed to do six pages, I probably can't.
Comparing oneself to others
What! you got an A+, your so smart I guess you didn't have to work hard at all.
I got a D+ on the last report, I'll Never be smart like Ryan
So what do you think about the upcoming lab report and presentation, I got an A+ on the last one it was too easy.
Fixed mindset
What's the point of having a discussion when I'm going to fail anyways, I can't do the report or presentation.
Are you doing okay Jacobi? you came in late and missed our group discussions on how everyone's lab report and presentation is coming along
Jacobi does well on his science exams and work sheets but he has a hard time putting his words on paper and writing reports
strategy & guidance
wow! I didn't know that about them. Your right I can do this, besides my last report I started on it the day before it was due.
Your report writing skills can always improve with some time and effort. If you need help stop by my class , also take a break if you start to feel frustrated, give yourself the appropriate amount of time to complete the work and remember you can do this. Jacobi.
Jacobi is feeling discouraged and is comparing himself with others achievements.
Jacobi's report and presentation
Thank you, I can't believe I did it!

excellent report and presentation Jacobi , I knew you could do it
the teacher recognized that Jacobi is not participating like he usually does and missed part of class.
growth mindset
Thank you for the guidance. I learned a lot by being challenged and all I had to do was put forth effort.
Jacobi is learning about a different way at looking at mistakes and that it okay to make them. He is also realizing taking breaks and giving yourself enough time to complete tasks is necessary.
it's okay to make mistakes that's how we learn. Henri Poincare published a paper with an error in it but he made corrections and discovered a new branch of science. Isaac Newton didn't publish his work for years because he was scared of his work being wrong and ridiculed
over the 8 days Jacobi took breaks when he got frustrated, started working several days before his assignment was due, and stopped by his teachers class as he progressed through his work and when had questions about his report and presentation.
Jacobi now knows that with time and putting forth some effort he can accomplish his goals and face new challenges.
I'm glad to hear it and that effort you put forth lead you to improving. good job!
