  • I am from the First Estate. We make up 0.5% of the population, own 10% of land, and pay no taxes.
  • I am from the Second Estate. We make up 1.5% of the population, own 25% of land, and pay 0% of the taxes.
  • I am from the Third Estate. We make up 98% of the population, own 65% of the land, and pay 100% taxes.
  • France has an absolute monarch system. This is Louis XVI, the monarch of France in 1789. He is a weak and indecisive leader. He liked the current tax system of France, and was reluctant to make changes. In 1789, he dismissed Necker for suggesting that the First and Second Estate pay taxes too. This set off a series of rebellions in France, that resulted in the Storming of the Bastille.
  • One political cause of the French Revolution was the extravagant spending by the royals, in particular, the queen Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette influenced King Louis XVI and often interfered in state affairs. This coupled with her extravagant and luxurious lifestyle incited the anger of the people. While the people did not even have enough to eat, she was feasting every day, and dressed in expensive clothes and jewelery.
