Iago and Roderigo discuss their hatred for Othello. Iago is mad that Othello promoted Cassio to be lieutenant instead of him, and Roderigo is upset that he married Desdemona, because wants to marry her.
Roderigo tells Brabantio that his daughter, Desdemona, has secretly married Othello (the Moor). Brabantio is furious and does not believe that Desdemona would have married Othello willingly.
Desdemona has married the Moor!
Iago returns to Othello and plays the part of a loyal soldier, while Brabantio enters and is ready to attack, but stops when Othello defuses the tension. Othello is summoned to speak with the Duke, and Brabantio plans to take this opportunity to arrest Othello because he believes he tricked Desdemona into marriage.
Othello goes on to explain to the Duke that he and Desdemona fell in love while he was at Brabantio's house sharing stories of his youth. Desdemona was drawn to Othello because she was fascinated by him and wanted to learn more. From there, they continued talking and eventually fell in love.
Othello has stolen my Desdemona and tricked her into marriage with black magic!
This is not true. My love for Desdemona is genuine, and she loves me as well.
Desdemona arrives to explain that she married Othello by choice, and says that she is now more loyal to Othello than she is to her father Brabantio. The Duke declares that their marriage is consensual and therefore there are no legitimate charges against Othello.
I love Othello very much, and will be loyal to him like my mother was loyal to you.
Roderigo feels hopeless and that he has no chance to marry Desdemona, and Iago, is still angry and might seek revenge on Othello for making Cassio lieutenant. Despite these challenges that they will have to face, Othello and Desdemona are now free to love each other. And Desdemona would love Othello unto her dying breath...
