Snails and slugs will eat the wood scraps. Well, fungi break down the hard food scraps. This can take months.
So do the other animals break down the rest of the scraps?
Yes, they eat the rest of the waste. Earthworms also dig through the compost which adds air into the compost.
Over time, the scraps will become dirt. That is what you can remove to use.
