"We’re home!" shouted Mom, very eager to introduce us to the new baby! Me and my sister Sophie have been excitedly waiting for our Mom to come home with our new bouncing baby brother Lucas. Mom had been pregnant and she went to the hospital while we were at school, so we never got an excuse to visit. Even though he was small and cute we weren’t expecting much change. But that was before we saw our house a week later. Our house looked as if it got hit by a category 5 hurricane. We knew something had to be done.
"Sophie, Mom deserves a break, she looks miserable, yet she is still managing to take care of the family. Let’s give her something special. " Sarah said pondering, “but what?" Soon enough Sarah jolted up "that's it! We can get some food from Mom's favorite burger place. She’ll love it! It's the first step to making her human again!" After discussing the plan they decided to meet up after school and tell Mom they would be going to a friend’s house to do homework. Finally their plan was in motion.
Sophie and I went off to find directions to the burger place. When we got there we paid the bus driver and found ourselves walking in to the delectable sensational aroma that hit us harder than a car would. When we finally stopped drooling over the burgers and fries in all their glory we got in line to order. In front of us was a girl that looked so much like me. She had dimples, brown hair, long eyelashes and deep blue eyes. It was honestly scary. I was already in shock but that was before I heard her voice! "One burger, 2 orders of fries and a side of ketchup please Ma'am." At that moment my mouth truly did drop. I couldn't move. I was frozen.
It was time for us to order, but I couldn't snap out this daze I was in. Suddenly I felt sick, my stomach dropped to the floor, my mind started racing and beads of sweat started rolling down my forehead, I felt like I was about to pass out. I felt like just bolting out the door and pretending this was all a weird dream. I finally came out of my daze, took a deep breath and walked up to the stranger and said "Hi". When she turned around her eyes, her hair, everything was identical. All three of us had the same exact shocked look on our faces. "Who are you!" said the stranger. I could tell by the tone of her voice that she was confused. "I-I-I'm Sarah, who are you?" “I'm Samantha" she said. "Why do you look like me?" she said. The three of us stood there in the middle of the restaurant stunned, as customers walked in.
Then I realized the customers walking in were my friends. “Why were they here?”I thought. They said they were busy all week but here they all were hanging out on Friday night. "What are you guys doing here!?!” I said. Sophie could see I was boiling and that I could blow at any moment. "Who's the look alike or wannabe?" they said. All of my friends started to giggle at Rachel's snarcky comment. I could see Samantha was getting as mad as I was. I knew she was a stranger and they were my friends (at least I thought they were) but who were they to treat Samantha that way? I was worried about what would happen but I knew I had to say something. I finally got the courage to practically shout "you can't treat either of us that way. In fact you shouldn't treat anyone that way! You treat everyone like they're the dirt under your shoe and everyone is tired of it!" Without a word Rachel and her squad left. They didn’t even order. I turned around and Samantha and Sophie gave me a big hug. I felt really good about standing up to them but I was still confused about Samantha and didn't know what to do.
It was almost dinner time so we knew we would have to go home soon. I didn't want to say goodbye. I realized that there was a hospital only 5 minutes from here. I really did want to see if we were related. We looked exactly the same. I talked to Samantha and Sophie and they agreed to go to the hospital to get a DNA test. It came back positive! I couldn't believe I had a twin! It was time to go home but it wouldn't just be me and Sophie coming home, it would be me, Sophie and Samantha, and of course the burgers. When we walked in, the house was spotless! My parents were sitting on the couch reading. They turned around to say hi and sat there in shock! After explaining to them what happened at the restaurant and the hospital we sat down to eat the burgers we bought for Mom. Thank goodness, those fries had been begging me to eat them since we left the restaurant. The warmth and smell of the salty fries with the coke fizzing down my throat was simply welcoming on this very weird night. Knowing I was with my family felt really comforting. I was happy sitting here with my whole family and I'm hoping things will never change. There are a lot of questions that still need to be answered but until that day let’s enjoy what we have.
