Washington has to go to Trenton and defeat the Hessians in broad daylight, even though that could lead to defeat and certain death.
Washington and his army cross the river at night and reach Trenton in the morning.
The Americans defeat the Hessians, making a victory for them at Trento. Miraculously none of the Americans were wounded or killed in the fight.
