Gorgons are known in Greek Mythology as three female monsters who could kill someone by a simple look. The monsters were described as having wings, claws, tusks, scales, and snakes for hair. The three were named.....
Euryale (the Far Springer)
Stheno (the Mighty or Strong)
Medusa (the Queen)
They were able to turn people to stone simply by someone looking at them. Seemed that no one could defeat them, they all died an instant death.
One of the more famous legends is of Peruses and Medusa (the only mortal gorgon). He was tricked into taking on Medusa by an evil king desiring to marry his mother. With the help from the gods, Peruses had possession of a sword to stab through Medusas scales and a shield to use the reflection to fight without looking at her.
