Storyboard Text

  • Dad, I've signed on to become a voyageur with the North West Company to help make more money for the family. I know it's a long, hard trip and I'd be leaving behind family, school and home but I think I'm up to it.
  • How are you holding up with everything?
  • Son, I am proud that you are making this big step in your life and I think you are ready to.
  • I'm doing fine. it's a little hard with all the cuts and blisters on my hands, I'm homesick to.But the good thing is I like all the people in my brigade and I think they like me.
  • I'm glad we ran the rapids, it was a wild ride but it was worth it.
  • Me to. I was scared to death that I was going to fall out of the canoe, I'm glad I didn't.
  • I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight.
  • That was a lot of paddling for one day.
  • Tell me about it. That was probably one of the hardest rides through Lake Superior I've ever taken in my four years of being a voyageur.
  • Hahaha, me to.
  • You know, it really does.
  • Wow. Some how Grand Portage looks even cooler than it did from the canoe!
  • I know. It's amazing how big it is too. I guess the hard work really does pay off in the end.
  • That sounds like a good plan.
  • So, are you going to return to Lachine or are you going to continue west with me?
  • I think I am going to return to Lachine. I just miss my family and I don't think I am ready. I am planning on coming back next season and hopefully continue west though.
