Storyboard Text

  • The King and Queen of Kapilavastu had been married for a while when they found out that Queen Mahamaya was pregnant.
  • We are finally going to have a baby! I am so excited.
  • A few days after the Queen gave birth to the baby and he was named "Siddhartha" the Queen passed away. Everyone was upset but especially the King.
  • The King did not want the Prince to grow up seeing the struggles that people face in the world so that he would not leave the Suddhodana. Because of this he made sure that his son never left the palace and was treated very well. He stayed in the palace until the age of 33.
  • Why can't I leave the palace Dad?
  • The prince became tired of not being able to leave the palace so one day he asked to leave and go into town. He saw an older man that was struggling and questioned what was wrong.
  • He went into town several times after this and was upset to see people suffering like this.
  • Later, on one of his outings to the town, he saw people of the Hinduism religion taking someone to be cremated. He learned that in Hinduism they believe that people are reincarnated and when they die they are just starting a new life (samsara). The prince did not like that people were having to live many lives only to suffer and die at the end of each one.
  • People should not have to suffer like this!
