Grendel's mother and Beowulf wrestled, she ripped and tore and clawed at him. She even bit holes in his helmet. For the first time in years of being at "war" would Hrunting earn no glory. But, Beowulf wasn't ready to give up just yet for he wanted fame and glory. " Fame comes to the men who mean to win it and care about nothing else!"
They fought again this time Beowulf was left helpless, but God helped Beowulf come back on his feet. Just then he saw hanging on the wall, a heavy sword hammered by giants, it was so massive that no ordinary man would be able to lift it, but Beowulf had the strength. He broke the chain it was held on, lifted it high over his head and stuck it towards Grendel's mother with all the strength he had left. The sword caught her in the neck and it cut through. Her body fell to the floor.
After the fight Beowulf went on the lookout for another dead monster. He found Grendel dead and armless in his corner. Beowulf took the sword and struck off his head. The Geats sat sadly hoping their leader was still alive and not dead as others believed. In the end,Beowulf took Grendel's head to the Danes and held it like a trophy.
