Stress and Tests

Storyboard Text

  • These results will determine how much knowledge you all have.
  • Good job staying focused on today's test. Make sure to study for tomorrow's quiz
  • SOME people might complain that tests cause stress amongst students, but the world around us just as demanding. Plus, American students only do half of the study time amount compared to students in Asia.
  •
  • Ughhh
  • Teacher, you know that results don't determine how much knowledge a student has.
  • In a recent study, a researcher named Jennifer Heissel ran tests on some students during their exam week.
  • What do you mean by that?
  • She found that those who didn’t stress either scored really good or a basic level while students that reacted strongly to stress scored lower than expected.
  • So, that's only one class!
  • No, other databases even conclude that students exposed to poverty and other stressors outside of school could drastically decrease test scores.
  • Hmm I see what you mean.
  • Think about it: if stress impacts students' scores then colleges may not accurately reflect students’ skills and abilities. The effects of this stress could hurt students' records later on including graduation requirements, impacts on courses they take, or even which colleges they attend.
  • YAY!!!
  • Okay class , I think it's best to cut off the test to give you guys a break since it'll stress you out.
