I finally beat Algernon! That surgery might make me smart after all.
Mr. Strauss, Miss Kinnian, and Dr. Nemur test Charlie's intelligence with a series of ink blot tests. They know that Charlie isn't very smart, and that he has a low IQ of 68. Charlie struggles with spelling and grammar. He is a phonetic speller. He really wants to get used to test out the surgery that may make him smarter.
Algernon just bit me! What's gotten into him?
Algrenon and Charlie race at mazes and Algernon always beats him. If Charlie gets picked, he will undergo the exact surgery Algernon had to make him smarter. Charlie can never seem to win. Charlie gets frustrated and fears that he may not get picked. But he gets great news that stated he will be used to get the surgery.
The Falling Action
After Charlie's surgery, he finally beats Algernon. Algernon and Charlie become best friends. After that, he got rapidly smarter. He could speak four languages. He was difficult to talk to because no one could understand him because of his intelligence. Everything he read he could remember. He mastered spelling, grammar and now has a broaden vocabulary.

Algernon bites Charlie and starts to refuse to do the mazes. Algernon is starting to decline in intelligence rapidly. Charlie knows something is wrong with him. Even though nobody says it, they know it might happen to Charlie.
Algernon dies because of his decrease of intelligence. Charlie discovers that his intelligence will decrease just as fast as it increased. Charlie is starting to decrease and is forgetting where he lives, and he is forgetting all of his knowledge he gained when he was smart. He is also forgetting grammar and spelling again.
Charlie moves away after his intelligence decreases. He believes that it will be better for him. He says goodbye to Mr. Strauss, Miss. Kinnian, and Dr. Nemur. Then, he heads off, but before he leaves, he makes sure to remind them to put flowers on Algernons grave when they get the chance.
