  • Rising Action Continued...
  • The story starts with the narrator talking about his life. He begins with his marriage and then moves on to talk about his pets including his favorite Pluto, a large black cat. 
  • Rising Action Continued...
  • As time progresses he starts to get irritated with the cat that was once his favorite because he believes that the Pluto is avoiding him. The narrator eventually reaches his boiling point and removes one of cat's eyes.
  • Rising Action Continued...
  • Can we keep him?
  • NO!!
  • In result of the narrator's increasing temperature, he murders the cat by hanging him in the backyard in a tree.
  • Climax
  • Stop!!
  • I'm gonna kill you!!
  • Later in the story, the couples house catches fire. The narrator returns to see the ruins of the house . While visiting the burned house, the narrator stumbles upon another black cat  with a white accent. This cat was very similar to the Pluto because his eye was also gone.
  • The cat followed the narrator home and his wife fell in love with the cat and wanted to keep it. The narrator kept the cat out of guilt. 
  • Yes!?
  •  The narrator loathed the cat; and started to hate it just as he did Pluto. One day on a walk to the cellar, the cat tripped him. His reaction was to kill the cat with an ax he picked up, but his wife stopped him before he could. Out of pure rage, he struck his wife in the head with  the ax. After he murdered his wife, he hid her body in the walls of the cellar. After his dreadful act, he realized that the cat had disappeared and was nowhere to be found.
