Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • Here's a dead mongoose. Let's have a funeral.
  • No. Let's take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn't really dead.
  • Conflict
  • I am Nag. The great God Brahm put his mark upon all our people, when the first cobra spread his hood to keep the sun off Brahm as he slept.
  • Well, marks or no marks, do you think it is right for you to eat fledglings out of a nest?
  • Rising Action
  • It's the mongoose again, Alice. The little chap has saved our lives now.
  • The mongoose, Rikki-tikki, is swept away from his burrow during a flood and is taken in by Teddy’s family who rescues and takes care of him. Teddy, Alice, Teddy’s father, Darzee, Darzee’s wife, Chuchundra, Nag, Nagaina, and Karait are all characters Rikki-tikki meets in the bungalow of Segowlee, India during the 19th century.
  • Climax
  • Sit still, Teddy. You mustn't move. Teddy, keep still.
  • Rikki-tikki meets Nag and Nagaina, who are snakes that threaten the safety of the other animals, the garden, and Teddy’s family. Rikki-tikki wants to kill both of the cobras, but another snake named Karait attacks Rikki-tikki and Teddy. Rikki-tikki fights Karait and wins. He is praised for saving Teddy.
  • Falling Action
  • He's alive!
  • After RTT kills Karait, he overhears a conversation between Nag and Nagaina where they plot to kill Teddy and his family so they can reclaim the garden for themselves. In order to save Teddy’s family, RTT follows Nag to the bathroom where Nag falls asleep waiting for Teddy’s father to use the bathroom so he can kill him. RTT and Nag go into a ferocious battle, but with all the noise, it wakes up Teddy’s father who kills Nag by shooting him in two pieces. RTT is once again praised for saving Teddy and his family.
  • Resoultion
  • Oh, it's you. What are you bothering for? All the cobras are dead. And if they weren't, I'm here.
  • Darzee’s wife and RTT devise a plan to get rid of Nagaina forever. Darzee’s wife pretends her wing is broken to lead Nagaina to the house, away from her eggs in the melon bed. This gives RTT the opportunity to destroy them. Nagaina corners Teddy and his family on the veranda as they are completely frozen by the sight of the deadly snake who is trying to kill them. In an act to lead Nagaina away from Teddy and his family, RTT reveals one last undestroyed egg. Nagaina begs for her egg back. RTT goes into her underground hole along with her and they fight.
  • Ah-h! Give it to me!
  • Look at your eggs, in the melon bed near the wall. Go and look, Nagaina!
  • Darzee believes that Rikki-tikki is dead, but Rikki-tikki emerges from Nagaina’s underground hole, victorious. Rikki-tikki succeeds in killing Nagaina and everyone praises and celebrates his victory. Teddy and his family have a feast in honor of Rikki-tikki.
  • It is all over. The widow will never come out again.
  • Rikki-tikki is proud of his victory and he promises to keep the garden safe forever. The garden, animals, and family live safely for the rest of their lives.
  • He saved our lives and Teddy's life. Just think, he saved all our lives.
