It is 1972 in Australia. Robert Hoge is born with a tumor the size of a tennis ball on his face and short, twisted legs. "I did not feel anything for this baby"says Roberts mom Mary, page 10.(Pictured is Roberts Mom and Dad after they find out about Rob.
Robert always is getting teased about his face and his legs as he gets older. He develops good friends to stand up for him though.
So the history of lawn bowls........
Wow, I wanna compete really bad and seriously in this.
Robert participates in swimming and lawn bowls. He is just doing it for fun though. He also loves hanging out with his best friends.
Such a good book. I love to read and write.
Robert starts getting treated differently as he grows up. When he turns 14, he is given the choice of a lifetime. He can finally get a real, good looking face. It takes him time to think, in fact a lot of time. He decides to stick with his face of the present day. He doesn't care what he looks like as long as he has a good heart.
After he rejects getting facial work, Robert starts competing in lawn bowls seriously. His coaches son makes him a stand to help him with his balance.
Robert goes to college to become a writer. He still loves swimming and going lawn bowling. He has gotten used to his face and is fine with it. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Always be yourself.
