Storyboard Text

  • There is so much water here in Lake Michigan!!
  • Did you know that humans withdraw about 4,000 cubic kilometers of water per year, which is actually the size of this lake.
  • Wow, really?!?
  • Yes, that amount of water that we withdraw now is actually triple what we withdrew 50 years ago!
  • That isn't good.
  • Water is the most vital natural resource on this planet, necessary for human survival and in growing our food.
  • And also in manufacturing systems and in sustaining our ecosystems and climates, right?
  • Yep! Too bad we only have access to 1% of the fresh water on earth because 97% is salt water and of the 3% that's fresh, 2% of it is frozen.
  • Wow, that isn't a lot.
  • Additionally, over 80% of the world's wastewater is put back into oceans and streams without any treatment.
  • That's not good. We have a lot of uses for our water including generating electricity from the movement of water, which I forgot to mention earlier.
  • Yea, it really isn't, which is why we have to do our best to conserve it.
