An optometrist is a type of eye doctor. Optometrists diagnose and treat conditions of the human eye and visual system. They also examine the visual system, or may prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat certain kinds of eye conditions.
Ophthalmologists specialize in eye and vision care and are trained to perform eye exams, diagnose and treat diseases, and perform eye surgery. Optometrists examine the the eyes for visual and health problems, and are licensed to prescribe medications to treat specific eye problems and diseases.
