  • Everybody is doing great!  Keep it that way.  Try your guys best to beat your opponents.
  • Oh, you've got be kidding me!!
  • Sure.
  • Can I have a word?
  • The rules are pretty clear that players aren't allowed to wear head coverings. The girl who wears the hijab isn't able to play in the tournament unless she takes off it.
  • Why does the referee come to talk to him? What happened to the tournament?
  • Why they did not let me attend the tournament!?
  • Sadia, I need to speak to you... I sent a request to the officials when you first made the team, asking about your head scarf and if it would be a problem. I didn't hear back from them and assumed it was fine. Then when Mariam made you this new outfit, Ifelt confident that you'd be able to play. But...
  • Can't play... Can't play... Can't play... Can't play... Can't play... Can't play... Can't play...
  • That is not fair! Her outfit is totally regulation! Why you are not letting her play!?
  • All the kids grabbed a ball for warm-up, taking shots and running the same passing and driving drills that they used in practice.
  • Why not? Come on, Ref!!!
  • Before the game starts, a referee suddenly comes to talk with Mr Letner.
  • Let her play!!!
  • Please keep quiet!! I have contacted the basketball tournament officials! The organizers are discussing the outcome!
  • The referee is telling Mr. Letner that Sadia's outfit doesn't comply with tournament rules and she can't play unless she changes, which makes Sadia feel so sad and unfair.
  • The game will begin in five miutes.
  • Thanks, you guys...
  • We weren't going to let that happen!
  • It is humiliating to be treated differently because Sadia is Muslim. The kids who are warming-up figure out what is going on so they shout to the referee.
  • Come on! Let her play! Let her play! Let her play!
  • It is impossible to hear the referee's next words because the cheering is so loud. Feet stomping, clapping, and shouting filled the gymnasium. Everyone in the gym helps Sadia against the referee.
  • They could have just let me leave, but they'd been willing to stand up for me... Thank you...
  • With everyone's efforts, Sadia is allowed to attend the game.
