Faber shows Montag a little tv screen and it shows a new mechanical hound being sent out. In the meantime, Faber and Montag have a drink and worry for a little while. Technology-Television
"...he was everywhere, in and on and about everything, he was a luminous cloud, a ghost that made breathing once more impossible." -Metaphor
Montag changes into Faber's old, stinky clothes and tells him to burn everything that has his scent on so the Hound can't trace him.
"When I leave, burn the spread of this bed, that I touched. Burn the chair in the living room, in your wall incinerator. Wipe down the furniture with alcohol, wipe the door-knobs. Burn the throwrug in the parlour. "
The Mechanical Hound arrives at Faber's house but later leaves. Montag heads over to the river where he gets rid of his clothes and escapes the hound. Technology-Mechanical Hound
Montag heads downstream down the river. He has time to revert back through a few memories he had in the past.
"A storm of light fell upon the river and Montag dived under the great illumination as if the sun had broken the clouds." -Simile
Montag meets the intellectuals that Faber was talking about near the railroad tracks.
y"Walk carefully. Guard your health. If anything should happen to Harris, you are the Book of Ecclesiastes. See how important you've become in the last minute!"
With the city bombed and nobody is alive except Montag and his new friends, they can build a new civilization off of their knowledge of books.
