Eugene was born in 1928 into a happy family. He had 3 sisters and an older brother. Religion wasn’t very important to him or his family. His mother was from a jewish orthodox. His father was a tailor.
When he was 16 Germany took over Hungary. All the Jews were forced into ghettos. He and his family already lived in the area that would become the towns ghetto. Because of this his family took on many jews into their home. All jews had to wear stars of David.
One day while walking home from school he saw a Nazi hit his mom. After that he and the rest of his family were forced into a truck. The truck took them to a brickyard. When they got there he was led onto a train. That train took him to Auschwitz.
Eugene and his family arrived at Auschwitz. He got separated from his mom and sisters. Then he got separated from his father. He was shaved then sent to take a shower, probably his last for a long time. He was given a striped uniform.
He waited for 10 days. After that Eugene was sentenced to slave labor. He was to be sent to work building underground v1 and v2 missiles. His job was to transport rocks from the tunnels to trucks. He later caught Pneumonia and was saved by a German doctor.
After that he was again transported to Bergen Belsen which was soon liberated by the British. Finally after he got out he had no family left except for an older brother who was serving as an officer of the Czech army.
