  • The Maya are an indigenous people of Mexico and Central America who are well known for how advanced their civilization was
  • At first, the people hunted animals and gathered plant food. Over time, they began to depend on farming. They grew corn, beans, squash, chile peppers, and other crops. Having a dependable source of food allowed the Maya to live in one place all year.
  • Experts agree that the Maya civilization began to weaken around A.D. 900. Some groups of Maya in the southern area abandoned their cities. Other groups of Maya in the north blended with another Mesoamerican culture. Experts do not agree why this happened.
  • the Maya left behind some information about then, such as their art and architecture. They are really important for the mesoamerican culture.
