I decided to leave so I could support the family. I also joined because I know that father can't join. I also know that it is a big sacrifice giving up home and school.
My muscles hurt so much and my blisters are really bad. Having Beloit around doesn't help with him teasing me all the time. The portages have been rough so far but I can take it.
Our brigade decided to not portage but go through the rapids. While we were canoeing through the rapids La Londe died saving our canoe by getting it unstuck from a rock. After he was swept away by the rapids and many hours of searching for him we said a prayer for him and made him a cross from his paddle mean while Beliot became our new steers man.
Our brigade decided to stay away from land. While we were paddling through the middle we went through a massive storm. The storm was so bad we started to take on water and we were only a few inches from the top of the lake. We had to paddle to the nearest island.
We finally made it to Grand Portage and I got to meet some of Charbeanau's family. I also got to eat real food for the first time in weeks. I also got to see how things work around the fort.
I decided to go back to Lachine so I can get a good education and maybe be a wintering partner. I also think it would be better to go back to see my family and celeste. I think that if I get my education I can support my family better if I can get a job as a wintering partner. I will probably winter next year because that could get me a good reputation for working as a wintering partner. I will say that being a voyageur was the best time of my life I would definitely sign up again next year.
