  • Impressment
  • The Chesapeake
  • After Britain blocked the French coast and threatened to search all the ships trading with France, France said they would search and capture ships trading with Britain.
  •                                                      The Embargo Act           
  • The British would go on American ships and capture people who left the British navy and force them back. They also impressed hundreds of thousands of Americans.
  • Broken Treaties
  • A French ship called the Leopard stopped an American ship called the Chesapeake. The captain of the Leopard wanted to search the American ship but they refused. The Leopard opened fire and damaged the Chesapeake as well as killing three people who were on it.
  • War Hawks
  • Embargo Act prohibits trade with another country. The Embargo Act was not a good change, it caused many ships forced to stay where they were supposed to be and could not set sail. A lot of people were unemployed in New England. The South could not sell much of what it would usually sell.
  • Lets trade
  • Americans were moving onto land which was promised to Native Americans by treaty. Tecumseh, a Native American chief, thought that treaties made by the U.S promised to individual Nations were useless.
  • Americans cannot go on Native American Land
  • Supported increase in Military Spending, wanted more land, wanted fertile forests, wanted Spanish Florida, and wanted to expand the nations power.
