Life in the the oil fields was/is rough most people are or were more worried about drilling oil than what there living situation around the was. For the most part oil-workers usually live in either shacks made of wood or tents. The towns were/are pretty much built in rivers when it rains it just floods the whole town.
The new was Kerosene this was a new form or type of oil Kerosene is made from petroleum or coal. Kerosene was also, cheaper witch saved people money and it was less dangerous. This oil affected texas by promoting the demand for oil.

Technology in the 1840s helped farmers in west texas by letting them work faster and better. For example, horse drawn plows made it so that Farmers could plow several rows at once. So, it made it easier and faster.
