  • The Colorado Territory continued to grow. Many people were excited for Colorado to become a state.
  • U.S. Government Looking at the State Constitution
  • Territory leaders met to write the state constitution to explain how they think government should work. It took many years.
  • Colorado Becomes a State
  • Coloradans voted on the constitution. Sadly, women did not yet have the right to vote.
  • Coloradans are Free to Elect Leaders and Vote
  • The United States government approved the state constitution.
  • On August 1, 1876- Colorado became the 38th state. Earning the nickname the Centennial State. Century = 100 years.
  • Colorado citizens get the same rights as people in other states.
