A long time ago, when the world was just created, an egg floated on the water. When that egg hatched, Ra was born. Ra did not want to waste time floating around, so he flew into the sky and became the sun.
Ra was lonely, so he created a wife for himself and many gods and goddesses to keep him occupied. His family was very busy running the world. All children are beautiful, but to Ra one child was especially important. That child was his grandson, Osiris.
Osiris had a brother named Set. Ra thought Set was average, but above all he favoured Osiris. To show Osiris how valued he was, Ra made Osiris the first Pharaoh of Egypt. Osiris married Isis, his one true love. Set was terribly jealous.
Out of jealousy, Set killed his brother, and cut him into pieces. He threw the pieces into the Nile River, in hope that it would remain a secret. But to his dismay, rumours spread and Isis soon heard what Set had done.
Isis was able to regain the pieces of Osiris. She brought these pieces to her good friend Anubis. Anubis was very clever and managed to put the pieces of Osiris together again.
When the great Ra heard about it, he was furious. He gave Osiris a new job, an even better job - god of the dead, which was the most important job of all. Meanwhile, when the young prince Horus heard what Set had done, he tracked down his uncle and murdered him.
