  • It's so pretty!

  • He is such an embarrassment because he can't walk. I'm going to teach him to walk to save myself from the embarrassment.

  • "It's so pretty," he said. "So pretty, pretty, pretty." (Hurst 318). This reveals that... William is amazed and in wonder. William is amazed at what he see's and thinks everything around him is beautiful.
  • Actions: Narrator 
  • "When he was five years old, I was embarrassed that I didn't have a brother that age that couldn't walk so I set out to teach him." (Hurst 318). This reveals that... the narrator is selfish and only thinks about himself. The narrator only thinks about himself and is selfish because he is embarrassed that his brother can't walk.
  • Looks: William
  • " One day I took him up to the barn loft and showed him his casket, telling him how we all believed he would die. (Hurst 318). This reveals that... the narrator is mean and not very kind. He wants to show William his casket to scare him and show that they used to think that he was going to die.
  • We thought you were going to die, so daddy had this made for you. 
  • "I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us." (Hurst 323). This reveals that... the narrator is mad and frustrated and doesn't care that he left his brother behind. The narrator is mad because William failed and couldn't keep up. 
  • "He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and shriveled like an old man's" (Hurst 316). This reveals that... William is dependent on everyone around him. He was born with a lot of medical problems, so his family will need to take care of him.
