  • Direct democracy is something the Athenians used for many decades
  • Direct democracy is when citizens decide on on policy initiatives directly
  • Nowadays in Athens,everyone´s allowed to vote. 
  • In ancient Athens, only 18, year old men who owned land could vote.
  • Athens was a direct democracy, that means there were no representatives because the citizens voted Directly
  • Representative democracy (or indirect democracy) has representatives who represent citizens in the voting process.
  • The US got democracy from the Greeks, but did not keep the part where the citizens vote directly. instead they have representatives for citizens.
  • Nowadays, its different. Only small groups of people vote.
