Mercury and the Woodsman by Ethan M. P1
By d9b2e34a, Updated
Once there was a woodsman who dropped his ax into a river. He was very upset, for it was his only ax.
But all of the sudden, Hermes appeared out of nowhere, hoping to help. Hermes offered the man three axes, his own, and two nicer axes.
But the man was honest and smart, so he chose his own ax. Hermes rewarded him with all three axes for his honesty.
Another greedy man had heard of this man being offered these beautiful axes, so he wanted the axes for his own.
The man dropped his ax in the river on purpose, and Hermes appeared and offered the three axes just as he had done before.
The man had chosen the nicer ax as his own, but Hermes knew he lied. Instead of giving him all three axes, Hermes left with the man empty-handed, with no ax. "Honesty is the best policy."
