George and Lennie are sitting around the fire talking about what their dream is. They plan to have a small house and land which is reminiscent to the American dream. This scene represents the theme of having a dream and planning to achieve it.
Ch 6 pg.106
Candy is offering his services to George so that he can have a sense of achieving a dream. Candy says that he isn't useful around the ranch and that they'll fire him soon. This represents the reoccurring theme of wanting to have a dream to live for.
Lennie is sitting in the barn talking to Curley's wife. Lennie accidentally killed the pup and this is the beginning of George and Lennie's dream not coming true. it also shows Curley's wife and how her dreams didn't come true. This theme foreshadows the theme of their dream not coming true.
George shoots Lennie. George shoots Lennie because Lennie keeps messing up and so they would never be able to achieve their dream even if lennie lived after being beat by everyone. This relates to the theme of dreams not always coming true because Lennie is dead so they can't achieve their dream.
