This scene shows how discrimination may get in the way of someone's dreams because Crooks is separated from everyone else and isn't respected as much as the white men on the ranch when he speaks
George and Lennie's american dream is now over due to the fact that they will have to run from away again. They won't be able to fulfill their dream because Lennie messed up.
In this chapter, the final chapter George shoots Lennie because he realized if Lennie was going to die he was going to die by the hands of his best friend. He wanted a painless death for his friend and this altogether ends their dream.
