February 22, 1770- A group of patriots were attacking a loyalist store. Officer Ebenezer Richardson fired his gun out of his house to try and break up the crowd. The bullet struck an 11 year old boy. this made the patriots even angrier
March 5, 1770- Private Hugh White was the only soldier guarding the kings money stored in the store when angry colonist started insulting and threatening him. White ultimately fought back and stabbed a colointist with his bayonet. This angered the colonist even more so in retaliation they fought back with rocks, ice, and snowballs.
A little after he called for reinforcement, supposedly someone said the word "fire," and a soldier shot their gun. After the first shot the other soldiers opened fire killing Crispus Attucks: a mixed heritage local dockworker, as well as 4 others, and wounding 8
The british were arrested, but John Adams stepped up to defend them. The reason he wanted to take the case because he wanted Preston and his soldiers to receive a fair trial. The boston massacre influenced propaganda as well. For example, Paul Revere made an etching of the event and showed the british as the ones who started it when it was the opposite.
