  • Impacts of the Cold War on Armenia

  • There became two groups, or factions, of Armenians, those who accepted communism, and those who did not. This separated many people and communities of people. 
  • Capitalism!
  • Communism!
  • Nationalism was greatly suppressed throughout the Cold War, but it did not stop people from feeling this way. Also, around 700,000 Armenians were shipped to Siberia in order to get their population under 1,000,000.
  • I am so cold!
  • During the Cold War, the USSR tried to abolish religion within Armenia. Also, holy possessions of the church were confiscated and destroyed.
  • How can I spread the word of God?
  • Armenians were provided with free education, but under strict conditions and had to learn what the government told them to. During this time, the Armenians were more educated than ever. 
  • I am training to be a factory worker, but I want to paint!
  •  Health care for basic needs was provided to the people for free. During this time, about 60% of the population regularly visited a doctor.  
  • I just got my checkup and I'm in perfect shape.
