so the song i chose was sing for the moment by the artist Eminem.
the song was released in 2002 and was a stand up for the rest of the rap artist being sterotyped
i chose this song because it was standing up for every rapper that has been accused of essentially being the reason a kid is growing up to be bad
“These ideas are nightmares to white parentsWhose worst fear is a child with dyed hair and who likes earringsLike whatever they say has no bearing”
this quote from the song by Eminem is starting the song off with saying about the basic "white" parent child interpretation. he then goes a long to explain that thats how the parents think when they know their child listens to rap music
Eminem also uses a verse in his song saying "I guess words are a motherfreaker , they can be greatOr they can degrade, or even worse, they can teach hateIt's like these kids hang on every single statement we make Like they worship us" explaining that words a rapper says in their songs really does impact kids but its not always in a bad way, he wants parents to know that its not always good but there is also some good in what they do
"That's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thingExcept for a dream and a freaken rap magazineWho post pinup pictures on their walls all day longIdolize they favorite rappers and know all they songsOr for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives'Til they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die" hes explaining why he makes his music and why the rappers feel the need to write what they do no matter who they are. he explains that hes writing this for the kids who dont have t good, and who grow up to be bad but thats not always the case.
this song reminded me of the story because along with slaves having it hard, it goes along with how the rappers are seen. rapper face this challenge everyday with parents stereoptyping them and not giving them a chance
